& security; house & ; healthy living and winter warmth. the activities and services developed to address these needs will be in response to what we have been told by older people and in partnership & practical help at gardening a gardening service has been provided by the organisation for over 15 years. the scope of the scheme is limited to grass cutting, hedge trimming, strimming and waste removal. clients pay an agreed standard price for the service delivered and the organisation manages the scheme. biewa will negotiate a fair price for the provision of the service, provide work schedules for the garden contractor and deal with any problems which arise. handyperson our handyperson can provide a wide range of services for our clients in their s. a typical list includes the following jobs: change light bulbs , hang curtains, change smoke alarm battery, install security locks and door chains, attend to dripping tap, supply and fit keysafe, supply and fit door bell, repair door bell and many more diy/odd jobs. we cannot of course do any electrical/gas work. carbon monoxide alarms we can supply and fit a carbon monoxide alarm, or fit one if you have bought your own. the fitting service if free of charge. smoke alarms we will refer clients to the fire service for a fire risk survey. the fire service will install a smoke alarm free of charge. we can supply and fit batteries for smoke alarms which have changeable batteries. winter warmth we supply thermal clothing during the winter months. we can install draught proofing materials if required. and assist clients with any repairs needed which effect warmth in the . energy/fuel/insulation advice is supplied with our colleagues via the green doctor scheme. shopping & cleaning we provide a shopping and/or cleaning service for our clients. we offer competitive rates all our workers are police checked and paid through payroll. other services above are some of the services we provide. we can also recommend reliable tradesmen for other services which we do not provide ourselves social contact the 59 centre for older people offers social, health and educational opportunities for older people. the centre is located at 59 belle isle circus. we are open mon- fri from 8.30- 5.00 telephone 2709426 belle isle befriending supports older people who would benefit from someone visiting them at . the visit may be for an hour or so per week. volunteers provide this service. all our volunteer visitors have a current crb check. the cinema visits are a great favourite, we make regular visits to the cinema to see the latest releases. the trip out usually includes a pub lunch after the show. computer training continues to be heavily in demand as more and more older people get interested in new activities and interests via the computer and internet. our training includes instruction on the use of various applications which the members have expressed an interest in learning more about. currently we have the following modules on offer. beginners; photo editing and digital cameras; publishing; family history; internet surfing. the craft group is one of the regular groups meeting at the 59 centre. they meet at 10.30 on thursday mornings. glass painting; knitting; painting etc... holiday w e are organising a break to great yarmouth in 2014 our holiday is open to all our members, we particularly welcome less able members who may need extra support from our staff and volunteers. we use a wheelchair accessible coach and wheel chair users are very welcome. men’s group the 59 centre runs a men’s group on monday afternoons. the group meets at 1.30pm for social activities. darts dominoes and putting the world to rights are popular activities here. pantomime & christmas shows we have trips organised to see the pantomime at the carriageworks theatre trips to local venues are organised at the west yorkshire playhouse, the alhambra, st georges hall. all theatre trips include door to door transport and disabled people are particularly welcome. ten- pin bowling a very popular and well supported group enjoy regular outings to the la bowl in kirkstall followed by a pub lunch at a local hostelry. less able people are particularly welcome as we have an accessible minibus and the venue provides additional equipment. trips & outings we offer over twenty day trips and outings throughout the year. the trips are offered to all members of biewa and their friends. winter warmth we can help with information & advice and practical support which will help you to keep warm and
